The Volatevs project aims to investigate organic volatile compounds (VOCs) emmited by extracellular vesicles (EVs), as source of additional diagnostic information. VOCs from EVs maturated in buffer saline solutions will be adsorbed onto Solid Phase Microextraction (SPME) fibers then desorbed in the inlet of a chromatograph for analysis by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectroscopy (GC-MSD). Thermodesorption will be also used to generate VOCs in the gaseous phase above sample, these being analysed by GC-MSD. The tranfer of VOCs from EVs into the saline buffer or in gas phase strongly depends on the superficial tension at the interface.
