The overarching objective of the POLHSYS project is to design and produce polymer-based materials that exhibit high performance in water purification processes. Also, the project aims to optimize operating conditions for the processes' intensification or enhancement.

Specific objectives

O1. Designing, preparing, and testing of innovative hydrophobic fibrous matrices (polymer-based) for the rapid uptake of nonpolar organic pollutants (light non-aqueous phase liquids).

O2. Developing high-performing systems based on polymeric/hybrid materials and advanced treatment processes for efficient removal of polar/ionic organic pollutants from wastewater.

O3. Synthesis and testing of nano-sized photocatalysts and hybrid inorganic-polymer membranes for advanced oxidation processes of persistent organic pollutants.

O4. Processes intensification or enhancement using the modeling-optimization strategy (single-objective optimization or multi-objective optimization).

O5. Consolidating the research team by increasing the scientific group’s knowledge and visibility.
