Starting date: 08.01.2025, Duration: 36 months

Total budget: 1 200 000 lei

Project leader: Dr. Sergiu COSERI

Contract Authority: Executive Agency for Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation (UEFISCDI), Funding programme: PNCDI IV - Programme 5.1 – Ideas, Subprogram: Exploratory Research Projects - 2023 Call

The primary purpose of this project is to create triple-decker molecular structures for wearable sensors and soft robotics that integrate multiple crosslinking networks via dynamic covalent links (Schiff-base and boronic ester bonds) and physical interactions (hydrogen bonds and electrostatic interactions). The ingenious choice of the three polymeric constituents: polyvinyl alcohol, polyacrylonitrile (in the form of its polyamine analogue), and nanofibrilated dialdehyde cellulose, combined with an innovative, specially designed DES, permit us to have faith in the success of developing a new class of materials with the exceptional qualities needed in the field of soft robotics (high stretchability and self-healing, excellent conductivity, anti-freezing capabilities, self-adhesion, and transparency).

To accomplish the planned aim, a series of four research objectives were established as follows:

O1. Tailor made DESs – design, preparation and characterization

O2. Preparation of the polymeric components: dialdehyde cellulose (DAC) nanofibers and polyamine analog of polyacrylonitrile (PANH)

O3. Triple-decker hydrogel structures fabrication

O4. Evaluation of the triple-decker hydrogel performances
