Today marks two years since academician Bogdan C. Simionescu left us. For the "Petru Poni" Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry and for the entire community of chemists in Romania, he was more than a prestigious scientist - he was a landmark, a mentor and an example of fairness doubled by humanity.
He led the Institute between 2000 and 2014, a period in which he opened paths and collaborations with top research centers. Entire generations of students/PhD students whom he guided with rigor and generosity owe him their training - in the specialized courses at the "Gheorghe Asachi" Technical University and in our laboratories. He carried forward, with dignity and vocation, the legacy of his father, academician Cristofor Simionescu, and served, with integrity and devotion, the Romanian Academy, as a full member, President of the Iași Branch and Vice-President.
Beyond titles and distinctions, those who knew him remember the man who believed that true science needs passion and that personal example matters more than any speech.
We often think of him - when a new idea requires risks, when a young researcher needs encouragement, when work demands patience and professionalism. What he has built remains alive in the Institute, within the people he trained and in the standards he left to all of us.
We are preserving and honoring his memory with gratitude, continuing the path he paved.
