Acronym: CLINMARS
Main obstacles in expanding personalized diagnoses are costs and time. The main problem for metabolomic or lipidomic screening is the small number of markers usually measured. NMR spectroscopy is today the only technology allowing comparisons in the same statistical model of metabolic data recorded on different instruments, in different laboratories and even in different countries. For other analytical techniques, statistic models show large deviations when using data from different instruments. Faster or more accurate approaches, would be highly benefic considering costs of NMR spectrometers and the scarcity of existing instruments in comparison with other analytical instruments. Project’s goal is to improve speed and quantitation accuracy of NMR metabolomics of clinical samples (urine, blood, feces, dialysate). Thus, the project will build on our existing expertise on urine, plasma and CSF, aiming to boost existing NMR methods by speeding up and improving quantitation techniques and to further expand access to feces, dialysate and paper blood spots, samples not used in our group and only marginally explored worldwide. In addition of expanding scientific knowledge, the Project will enable wider access of Romanian groups (particularly those involved in metabolic disorders and cardiovascular research) to techniques that are currently used more in chemistry than in medicine. The multidisciplinary activities are from the fields of medicine, analytical chemistry and physics.
