Purpose

    The aim of the project is to obtain a temporary occlusion system based on two components:
(1) a soft component based on a injectable organic-inorganic composite;
(2) a hard component based on a photopolymerizable resin.
    The soft component of the system will imply the preparation and characterisation of an injectable paste based on an atelocollagen - calcium deficient hydroxyapatite composite, generated by the direct nucleation of the hydroxyapatite precursors onto premineralized atelocollagen microfibrils, associated with a modified polysaccharide, while the hard component of the system will consist in the obtaining of a new maleic and/or acrylic copolymer functionalised with new photopolymerizable group, able to be mixed with commercial dental monomers and seal the dental cavity filled with the soft component.
    It is expected that for a period of time, this temporary occlusion system could act as a type of direct capping material. The system is intended to offer protection and mechanical strength through the hard component, while the soft component situated underneath should provide optimal support for dentin remineralization or more complex dentin-pulp complex regeneration - so that the tooth could regain its vitality.
